Artist Statement

Within my work, I explore the softness of the human form, touching on often difficult topics such as intimacy, scaring, and feelings of anxiety and depression. My intention behind these subjects is to normalize and beautify those things like nudity, mental illness, and blemishes that everyone has but never want to talk about. I find comfort in the moments and objects that we often overlook. The “little” things. The emotions common in day to day life, and even those which are relatively uncommon is what motivates me to create. Using color and implied texture determines the emotion of the subject, and the surrounding objects and patterns creates an environment which personifies the trials and tribulations of life. Through the use of oil paint, I am able to produce a smooth, dream like environment that eases the viewer to look past their own predisposed notions of the subject.
